The Mid-century modern movement adapted and reinvented existing furniture design, propelling timeless functionalism to the fore. The movement asks how function can be found in the rawest of materials and pioneered a new style of interior design that has endured the test of time. Organic shapes and natural colour palettes combine with clean lines, contrasting curves and visible joints to create a fluidity and style emblematic of the era. As the boundaries between spaces blur, the stiff formality of former design movements gives way to a style of relaxed “easy-living”, which remains popular to this day.
